Description

A bronchial stent is a cylindrical shaped hollow tube device that is placed in the airway of the patient to open the narrowed path and help him to breathe. Narrowed airways can result from lung cancer, infections, tuberculosis, metastatic cancer or other inflammatory diseases. This stent keeps the airway open and allows adequate airflow with normal passage of secretions. These airway stents can be temporary or permanent and are made up of materials such as metal and silicone or their combination. Stents are deployed with help of bronchoscope that provides visuals with its attached camera. These can be customized as per airway and are unique in their own in their quality, shape, and sizes. A highly trained pulmonologist places the stents in the patient's airways. It does not involve any surgical incisions and the patients can be discharged the same day.
