Description

Pleural aspiration is a procedure of inserting a small needle through the chest wall, to remove the fluid and air from the space between patient’s lung and the inside of his chest wall (the pleural space). In pleural space, air and fluid are not supposed to be collected and this accumulation of fluid (pleural effusion) & accumulation of air (pneumothorax) can create breathing problems or improper lung functioning. Removal of the air and fluid accumulation from pleural space can treat problems of breathlessness.
