Chest tube insertion, also known as intercostal chest tube drainage, is the procedure to evacuate blood, fluid or air from pleural space and around patient's lung, heart. During the chest tube insertion, the hollow plastic tube is inserted between your ribs and inner lining visceral pleura & outer lining parietal pleura of the chest cavity. Chest tube insertion is required in cases of collapsed lung, lung infection, inhaling trouble due to accumulated air or fluid, any related surgery, lung bleeding after any trauma, fluid accumulation because of other diseases.
