Bronchoscope helps to:
- Detect and see any abnormalities in the airway,
- Get the infectious samples of the tissues,
- Evaluate bleeding part of airways and
- Remove any foreign object in the air path.
Here are Many side effects patients might experience from BRONCHOSCOPY:

- 2. Inhaled toxin
- 3. Obstruction of a bronchial tube
- 4. Lung rejection after transplant
- 5. Hemoptysis
- 6. Suspected interstitial lung disease
Bronchoscopy can be two types: Flexible bronchoscopy and rigid bronchoscopy.
The flexible bronchoscopy is more prominent than rigid bronchoscopy as the former is usually done under local anesthesia but can be under general anesthesia if required. It uses flexibly lighted, thin and long tube to visualize into the airway. Due to its thinness and flexibility, it can penetrate deep into narrow airways and perform diagnosis. However, the later i.e. rigid bronchoscopy requires straight hollow metal tube which performed under general anesthesia. This method is useful in cases of profuse lung bleeding, removing of large samples of tissues for biopsy and removal of the blockage in the pipe.
Prior to the procedure of bronchoscopy, the patient is not allowed to intake any food after midnight. Patient has to inform the doctor about any specific allergy, any other prescribed medicine, and pregnancy. He would not be allowed to take any type blood-thinning medicine before the procedure. In the procedure, all accessories worn are asked to be removed and the doctor's team performs the chosen process keeping eye on patient's heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen level. After procedure patient would recover within 1 to 3 hours but need assistance in case of anesthetic procedure. He might feel soreness and cough that will be gone with time.
